What are the differences between the legal perspective of marriage & the spiritual/religious perspective?

Differentiate the legal point of view/perspective of marriage from the religious perspective/point of view. What are the differences between the legal perspective of marriage %26amp; the spiritual/religious perspective?
Marriage is from God. One man, one womanWhat are the differences between the legal perspective of marriage %26amp; the spiritual/religious perspective?
Legal perspective: Affords over 1000 unique legal rights to the couple, ranging from tax benefits to power of medical decision.

Religious perspective: Union of two people sanctified by their God/s and/or Church.

My answer to the hidden question:

This is why I believe gay marriage should be allowed: legal rights. Due to separation of Church and State no Church can legally be made to perform ceremonies for gay couples, just as Churches now have no legal obligation to accept homosexuals into their congregation.

Legalizing gay marriage will not make it a union recognized by the churches. It will only afford homosexual couples the same legal rights as heterosexual couples.
The legal view is usually based on the christian religious view. However, one does not have to be christian to get married.

For example- pagans and wiccans have what is called a handfasting. It unites two people spiritually, and is recognized in most states as a legal marriage IF the priest or priestess has completed the necessary requirements to marry two people in the state. Pagans can get handfasted if they are a homosexual couple, but it would not be viewed as a legal marriage by the state.

religiously and spiritually, marriage is a spiritual union between two people. Some religions define who can get married and what that means. Ex. Christians get married, but only one man and one woman (or one man and many women, depending on the sect of christianity). There is no divorce with catholics (but other groups allow it).

The US has always followed a christian view of marriage, however not every person in the country is christian. there is a freedom of religion that should be accepted, as it is part of our constitution. People should (and do) get married under separate religions, but some states only recognizes it to be a legal marriage if it follows the christian rule of one man one woman.

Not to offend anyone, but if the government continued to rely on catholic rules then there would be no divorce and the two would only marry in order to have children. Some rules I feel are a little outdated, and some catholic rules don't exist legally anymore. Maybe its time to respect other religious beliefs you may not agree with. Again, not trying to offend.
Legal View - Depends on the Jurisdiction

Religious View - Depends on the Religion

you're gonna have to give us more information than that
I dont know. I dont Know
Homosexuality is slowly pushing its way into the laws and the sanctity of marriage. While God's law on the subject of marriage between one man and one woman is never changing, nor will it ever change to allow homosexual marriage. Other than that, marriage is a spiritual thing and a gift from God.

Edit: Oh and I forgot to add that God says not to divorce unless your spouse has cheated on you or is fornicating. And to not re marry unless adultery was commited or your spouse dies.

While America's law is you can divorce for any reason. Example: look at Hollywood.
