What do you think of this definition of traditional marriage?

“Traditional marriage: When your fief lord decides, for the purpose of increasing his workforce, that you, a pig farmer on his estate, will marry one of the slop women who cleans out the castle cesspit. Doesn't matter which one. So he bribes the archbishop to bind you in marriage, and the king, who happens to be passing through the village on his way to a witch burning, takes advantage of the primae noctis to deflower your bride. Then you have 11 children, three of whom survive before dying of the plague at age 26. Ah, tradition!” - Jon StewartWhat do you think of this definition of traditional marriage?
How about, ';If at first you don't succeed, try try again.'; That would better describe the definition of marriage in the US.What do you think of this definition of traditional marriage?
The point is exactly that it doesn't happen any more. People talk about this traditional marriage but they're ignoring all the changes marriage has undergone over thousands of years.
You forget something: when you marry the slop woman, you own all her buckets and she has nothing.
Well after reading that I think it's best if we not get our definition of marriage from Jon Stewart.
It is disgusting, and since it doesn't happen anymore, not relevant.
I think you should stop quoting Jon Stewart...you are making him look bad being associated with you.
I think you are spending too much time thinking of ways to waste time.
Traditional marriage= No fags allowed
I think it is a bad attempt at humor.
Kinda ';New Agey'; today aren't ya? I was hoping you'd get all Old Testament on 'em with that one...

-SD-
I think it's false and irreverent...but Jon Stewart is creative...
Sounds good to me. what's wrong with it? Oh, we don't have fiefdoms anymore. I get it.
well put.

Personally I find the whole thing of upholding ';traditional marriage'; and ';traditional values'; very disturbing.

The values that are worth anything are also values in other religions and cultures not just one faith or one nation.

However the ';traditions'; that matter so much to Americans are about gay rights. Why is this such a big deal. Marriage isn't about procreation any more it's about being in love. That being said I think people should be allowed to marry who they're in love with.

There is way too much bigotry going on here. I mean this is the same kind of bigotry that got Matthew Shepard killed. It has to stop. Besides along with those values that matter so much to Christians (the main driving force here.) I believe Jesus said to love your neighbor. To me that means be respectful of your differences instead of instigating a fight when you can't begin to comprehend the other side of the issue.
