It's very easy, free, and most likely can be done over the telephone if it's a smaller area. You need to contact the office of the County Clerk. That is the person in each county who is the custodian of records. She will have a copy of the marriage license. Since the record is 50 years old, it will not likely be on computer, so she may have to look it up on microfilm, so it may take her a day or so to get back to you. If you wish for a copy of the license, there may be a small charge of a dollar or so to mail it to you. If it's a small, personal county, she may be willing to tell you over the telephone.

Most counties are on=line with those kinds of records now. If you can't get them on-line, i think you can go to the courthouse and look at it without paying if you don't want an actual copy.

in some states, you'll need the location as well. [Example: marriage licences are issued by the town clerk in Vermont.]
If you know the church in which they were married, try calling the church. Most keep records of births, baptisms, marriages that occur.
It ought to be public record, depending on how far back the records were kept. Or, as in the case here, the courthouse burned down in 1945, so I can't find any record of my grandparents marriage, therewith, who their parents were!
