Philosophically speaking, What is the connection between the soul and marriage?

I've heard that at marriage ';two souls become one'; but what philosophical idea teaches this? can you give me a quote or a source that says this (or something similar) that I can use for an English paper?Philosophically speaking, What is the connection between the soul and marriage?
The connection between soul and marriage is... of a soulmate! When one partner finds a matching partner... the soul and body become one... so goes the adage! Entering into a purely sexual relationship does not combine the soul and the body... it is only termed a purely physical relationship... nothing otherwise!

If one exists on the karmic scale of 9.309872 and finds a matching partner in and around the karmic scale of 9.309872... It is termed a marriage fixed in heaven! Why? It is for the sole reason that one was made for other... and such a relationship is expected to last long... forever!

The sacrosanct institution of Marriage is not the bonding of bodies physically but on the spiritual scale... the reason why marriage is termed as bonding of two souls into one! This philosophical idea was introduced not to degenerate the pure relationship of marriage into purely physical one... it means much more than the physical relationship alone! More on soul atman- http://www.godrealized.com/define_atman.鈥?/a>Philosophically speaking, What is the connection between the soul and marriage?
Marriage was created to protect women from other men since they didn't have many rights are were taken advantage of. It is an outdated concept that only hurts relationships. A relationship is hurt by the rules and maintenance, but we are taught in society that constantly checking and fixing a relationship actually helps (ridiculous).

A relationship is a living thing and being tied down pisses it off. Any idea of being in control is pure fantasy.

Souls don't exist in my opinion because these unexplained questions about consciousness are actually not that unexplained. A soul is not necessary to live and in my opinion extremely unlikely. I have a whole picture of how I think it works (email me if you want elaboration).
From the Bible, Genesis 2:20 - 24

';But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs [h] and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib [i] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

';This is now bone of my bones

and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called 'woman, [j] '

for she was taken out of man.';

24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.';
