How do you feel about same sex marriage?

And don't use the Bible or say ';who does it hurt'; I want good arguments from both sides. How do you feel about same sex marriage?
I believe that two consenting adults have the right to be married and to have that marriage recognized by the government. I don't particularly care whether any church chooses to recognize the marriage or not.

Allowing real marriages gives a degree of social stability to gay relationships for several reasons. Some of that comes from the sheer legal and personal responsibility that comes with taking marriage vows.

Since the U.S. is benefitted by the separation of church and state, no church would have to perform or acknowledge any same-sex marriage any more than any Christian church has to recognize a Jewish marriage. That is to say, they have to give it the minimum level of legal respect, but wouldn't be required to recognize it within the boundaries of their own faith. The anti-gay religions would have nothing to worry about.

There is no good reason to deny marriage rights to two consenting adults. There is far greater value in allowing them to get married. How do you feel about same sex marriage?
I am against it. No species can survive if it does not pair to reproduce. Arguing the two men or two women can be a good of parents as a straight couple is irrelevant because it is against nature.
ADAM AND EVE NOT ADAM AND STEVE
1. Marriage was NOT created by the church. People got married before there was a bible. It was created for financial reasons including property. Since men could own property and work for an income, fathers would make arrangements for their daughters to be married.

2.I hear people say-because a gay couple can not procreate. Well that's a bungh of BS. A lot of hetero couples can't procreate either. Are you going to say they can't get married??

3. It is a civil rights issue. It is unconstitutional to deny citizens the right to marry.

4. It would be good for the economy. I know some queens that can really throw a party!!

5. It would be better for children of gay parents for their parents to be married, especially if one were to die.

6. Check your dictionary. Marriage is a term that can be used a lot of different ways. I can marry two pieces of wood to form a joint. I'm just sayin'. Who cares if they use the word married? It's a word. Straight people do not own it. Get over it!

7. Churches do NOT have to marry anyone that they wish not to.

8. Separation of church and state.

We are wasting a ton of time and money fighting and debating this issue. It should be legal everywhere period. It IS going to happen. People need to let it be and move on already.

As long as they are consenting adults, I don't care who gets married. Let 'em marry. And don't tell me it will lead to polygamists getting married. They do it anyway and I don't have an issue with them either as long as those being married are consenting adults. Period.
This is a touchy subject. You are an American and are free to do what ever you want under our laws. Although homosexuality is accepted as normal behavior it does not make it right. please understand i myself do many immoral things. As a sinner i always will. It is my personal responsibility to realize it is wrong. I will only be lying to myself for believing otherwise.

deadbreed
I feel if the government is going to recognize same sex couples, they should be differentiated by being given a separate title.

Oh wait, they already are...civil unions! I think advocating to be called ';married'; is asinine.
It means that why god creates Eve . The Adam was enough ok

can you understand ?. you should think more about it
There is NO argument against it. There are 1,138 additional rights that are provided to married couples that same sex couples should have available to them. Call it whatever you want. I belong to a Christian church that would gladly perform same sex marriage.

As far as the Bible goes...no religion follows the Leviticus holy code in today's society. Those people pick and choose what is convenient for them.
The Bible isn't a valid reason? It is for a lot of people.
I think it's wrong. You say don't use the bible, but marriage is a holy bind. So you can't just leave that fact out.

Now civil union I am totally fine with.
Opposed as it intrudes on the rights and beliefs of others (the religous people). No personal problem with haviing ';unions'; that would allow all property and tax allowances.
Since marriage was originally a religious institution, it is difficult to assume that the same intentions should be had for same sex marriage. The term ';marriage'; was meant for a man and a woman. Historically, men and wome could only marry a human of the opposite sex for it to be called ';marriage';. Since marriage is made up anyway, you should not be able to call whatever you want a marriage. Call it something else, but not marriage. I am a man married to my wife, and that's the only way it can be. Other unions can be called whatever you want, and perhaps with the same benefits as marriage, but don't call it a marriage.
There is nothing in the bible saying being homosexual is against him. O.o

I am bi, but i wouldn't marrry a girl, honestly. But i might. Idk. I think its fine, i mean, who you like is who you like. Think about it.

and really, there is nothing in the bible saying its wrong. O.o
I feel that it's none of my, yours, or the governments business to intrude into the committed relationships of other people.

When people are once again dragged outside the city limits and stoned to death for adultery, then I'll believe that Christians give a damn about the sanctity of marriage. Until then, this whole ';controversy'; seems like an outrageously petty excuse to remind homosexuals that they aren't liked.

Ally: ';Separate but Equal'; is hardly moderate. Why would anyone want to legalize discrimination against a single minority group? If it can happen to them, it can happen to you too.
No problem with it ';misery loves company'; Why should only hetros wear a '; ball and chain';?
I am a life-long Democrat, who has, as I've educated myself turned toward the right. I consider myself to be fiscal conservative and socially moderate.

That said, I don't have any problem with same sex unions, but I think they should be a different kind of contract than marriage (man and woman). Call it something else, and file it under a different name in the court system.
wat he said adam and eve not adam and steve
It is wrong.

Marriage is by definition, the union of a man and a woman to form a family unit in society. Any other relationship can be called by some other name, they do not meet the definition of marriage. The union of man and woman to form a family is natural. Other relationships are not natural, they are an aberration.
The only good argument I've heard against same sex marriage is a psyudo-economic argument that states that marriage laws are designed for a dynamic involving a man and a woman. Same sex couples are different and thus may need different protections and thus a different system of laws.

I think this argument gets weaker every day. As more and more of our laws become gender neutral, it becomes less likely that there are huge differences that need to be ironed out between same sex couples and traditional marriage. However, imagine of the law was than interpreted to allow for a man to have multiple wives. In that case people could certainly think of ways that the current marriage laws might be inadequate to deal with that type of situation. However, since that's different than same sex marriage I think we should cross that bridge when we come to it.

My only real caveat is that I don't want to see churches and religiously affiliated organizations forced to recognize relationships that go against their beliefs. The government, however, should not be in the business of excluding same-sex marriages the benefits of traditional marriages.

Defense of marriage acts often lead to absurd and hilarious results. Because of the way our statute was written in Ohio, the Christian Group that sponsored that act had to file an amicus brief supporting a man who beat his girlfriend sensless arguing that becasue they weren't married (and their relationship ';approximated marriage';) the domestic violence statute shouldn't punish him. Very Christain Huh?
If our Country was founded on the concept of equality for all, then it should apply to everyone especially since allowing ';gay marriage'; would not interfere with ANY other laws.
its not hurting me, so I pay no mind. If they want to get married, then so be it. why should I restrict their right to be happy?
It's a states rights issue. I personally would vote against it for moral reasons.
