The Governor of Maine said that there could be a referendum to validate the gay marriage law. If there is a referendum, do you think the voters will vote for gay marriage or against it?Gay marriage is now legal in Maine. But could it be overturned through a referendum?
I will certainly be signing the petition for a voters veto on the law. We (Maine residents) have already voted down a gay marriage bill once before, and I find it inexcusable that our ';representatives'; went ahead and defied our will by pushing this law through anyway.Gay marriage is now legal in Maine. But could it be overturned through a referendum?
They already voted for it. I don't remember *why* it ended up moving through the court system (evil psycho fundies with nothing to do is my best guess) but it did. Even if they voted against it, it would get kicked back to the courts, which has already said it is against the state constitution to discriminate like that.
Here's an old article about the first go-round with equal marriage rights being approved. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines05/鈥?/a>
I'm not sure. Most states don't have a referendum process written into their constitutions, California is somewhat unique in that regard.
I am still hopeful that the California Supreme Court will overturn Prop 8. 51% of people can't deprive others of their civil rights and it was just wrong.
well i hope people would vote for it but alot of people just don't understand us they LGBT people feel that there's nothing wrong with it its not like it would affect them in any way but they will see more happy people. Its legal in UK come live with me lol
Probably vote for it, but if there is a referendum, there will probably be more of a fight for gay marriage than with California.
I think they will vote for gay marriage. It is so exciting to see gay marraige being legal in some states. I wish it was legal in Minnesota.
I'm not 100% sure but Maine is pretty gay friendly and they would probably vote for gay marriage.
Never know though because look at what happened in California with prop 8. That was a shock to me.
