I agree with Tom V, it would require more government follow up to be sure this wasn't happening solely for financial gain (think illegal aliens getting marriage for citizenship).
Social norms would also prohibit such marriages.Should marriage of relatives too old to procreate be allowed?
Social norms do prohibit same sex marriage in most states in the United States and in many other countries. If society looks at same sex marriage in a more positive light than it will become legal.
I don't think there would be any real reason to, unless she was a hot old babe. As the first poster stated, there are some things you can do as a result of marriage, but they aren't that great. It's actually better to file taxes separately, especially with the marriage penalty coming back with the expiration of the Bush tax cuts. As far as the other stuff, I believe most of those would be available simply by declaring your sibling or relative to be a legal dependent.
I would considering prohibiting it just because of the potential abuse of our system. Being married entitles you to file joint taxes, share a health plan, get survivors benefits from social security, etc. I would imagine many brothers and sisters would love to have these benefits if they could get them, which would result in a lot of sham marriages.
