What can we do to fight California's Christians in their continuing campaign against gay marriage?

The same type of an anti-gay amendment will be on ballots in my state of Florida this November - although we are not nearly as socially progressive as Californians and gay marriage here is still probably decades away. Here are some things that I'm doing here that would be applicable to the good fight over in CA:

1. Use yourself as a constant advertisement against the measure. You'd be amazed at how people's perspectives about LGBT people can change once they realize that we're perfectly rational, normal citizens just like everyone else.

2. Identity groups that are working against the amendment and HELP THEM. Raise money from family and friends (many have websites that allow you to create a personalized fundraising webpage), give whatever amount of money you can comfortably afford, take place in tabling events and rallies, etc etc. The right-wing religionists and Republicans will use their money and influence to spread propaganda supporting the amendment; it is absolutely imperative to counterbalance their efforts as much as possible. Create visibility for the cause!

3. Identify the corporations that are giving money to bankroll this cause, and if possible, boycott their products and services. Likewise, patronize those gay-friendly companies like American Airlines that sponsor gay rights groups such as the HRC. Talk with your wallet.

4. This won't directly affect the amendment, but do not support or vote for any politician - Democrat or Republican - who expresses a desire to overturn the ruling.

And most of all, remember, if conservative Arizona defeated such a bigoted amendment in 2006, liberal California can most DEFINITELY defeat this one in the change-oriented year of 2008!What can we do to fight California's Christians in their continuing campaign against gay marriage?
Use every method you can to gather support from open-minded individuals and encourage them to get to the polls. I have seen situations where minority interests have prevailed simply because the general public was too apathetic to vote. Granted, this is a hot-button issue and a lot of the old guard will make the effort to vote against it...but I think you have a chance. I also think that the fighting and hating mentality will work against you. Don't fall into that elephant pit. Encourage people to live and let live, by setting that example yourself. The militant way is not the only way...and remember that the more ferocious you are, the more reason you give ignorant straight people to fear you. I sense your frustration, and I am sympathetic, but realistically it's a case of getting straight people to realize that gays are just regular folks who want the same things as their straight counterparts...nothing scary about that. What you're fighting is ignorance and fear, not Christians per se.What can we do to fight California's Christians in their continuing campaign against gay marriage?
You left out the fact that 61% of the people of CA, recently already voted to keep the definition of marriage as it always has been - one between one man and one woman.

Then less than a handful of judges went against the will of the people. Legislation is not the job of judges - they were wrong, it's that simple. And this doesn't have anything to do with how you feel about gay marriage, it has to do with judges over-stepping their authority. Read the dissenting views and learn how what some of the judges did was not their proper role.
You see, most of the California Christians base their beliefs in Gay people on the Bible. They use the Bible as a weapon. The verses that they quote in the Bible have been grossly taken out of context. The only thing that we could do is to tell them that what they believe is not right.

Please visit this website and read about it. And hopefully we can all spread the word and maybe change their outlook. Good luck.
They have the same right to fight it that you had to try to overturn the initiative that two thirds of California voters approved.

They have their beliefs and you have yours.

Those beliefs are diametrically opposed.

You are incredibly outnumbered.

If Democracy rules, eventually you will be voted down.

However in this politically correct day %26amp; age, I give you 50/50 odds.
keep fighting. dont give up. get petitions, go to rallies, show them that just because one religion doesnt agree with something doesnt mean it becomes law. seperation of church and state. the government has no right to tell someone who they can love, and who they can spend their lives with. gay couples live just like we do, homosexuality is NOT chosen, they have a different stucture in the INAH-3 of their hypothalamus. look it up. so they should have every right that married couples do. grow up close minded religious fanatics.
What John S said.

Plus, we can put our trust in the electorate; the latest field polls in California show that the majority of voters believe gay marriage should be legal.
I would say roll over and take it. You are vastly out numbered. By the way, they represent a large majority of your state. Didn't the people already decide on this? Why do you think a handful of people have the right to overturn a vote?
don't do any thing, why you ask because they don't have any power to Begin with. some day there will be gay marriages the only res-an Therese not is because the polations are from an older generation.
You could start by not assuming that all Christians accept the agenda of a few right-wing evangelicals.
use reverse psychology and act like you dont want to be married
gays? Who knew they had rights anyways? hmmmm. Well I guess that means your gay.
