What is the reason for Same-Sex Marriage picking up a lot of steam?

I'm thrilled that states are beginning to recognize the rights of gay people, but it feels as though since Obama became President many states have begun passing legislation recognizing same-sex marriage.

A few examples:

Maine

Massachusets

Iowa

Conneticut

Vermont

Washington D.C. (not a state, but still counted)

Is there any rhyme or reason why this movement has picked up so much steam? Is it because there is a Democrat in the White House? What is the reason for Same-Sex Marriage picking up a lot of steam?
America is tired of the ugliness of division %26amp; discrimination.

The divisiveness of the republican party is wearing thin.

The people are starting to see the beauty of diversity and acceptance.

Why do you think only 20% now identify themselves as republican in surveys now? What is the reason for Same-Sex Marriage picking up a lot of steam?
Where exactly are the ';Rights'; concerning marriage addressed in the Constitution?

Marriage isn't a Right anymore than driving a car. It is something that is LEGISLATED by the individual States in accordance with their own State Constitutions. If a State wishes to ban gay marriage, as long as it doesn't violate their own State Constitution, then it is legal. The same goes for legalizing it.

As for other States recognizing it, that is up to the individual State as well. The majority of States do not recognize my license to carry a concealed weapon although it cost me a lot more and I had to do a lot more to get it. States may recognize my driver's license but not a law license or doctor's license from my state.

And States are not recognizing gay marriage. They are legalizing it. There is a difference. There will be many States that will refuse to recognize these marriages. Should they be pushed to recognize them, some of these uber Liberal pro gay marriage (but very anti-gun) they may be forced under the same rulings to recognize my CCW permit.

It's called unintended consequences.

Personally, I really don't' care anymore about gay marriage. But I would love to be able to carry when I travel in New York, Maryland, DC, Mass, Kalifornia and others.
I think it's partly due to there being a Democrat in the White House but more to the fact that it's Obama. His staff was able to mobilize and excite the under-30 crowd and all polls show that this age group is highly in favor of gay marriage. So I think some of this political activism is holding over for this issue. It's a good thing, I think, to get young, progressive and innovative people involved in government.
Honestly, I think part of it is to distract people from more important things going on elsewhere. Many people seem to be pretty passionate on their views about same sex marriage rather it's for or against. Get people all hyped and pied about gay marriage, they won't notice what other things government is trying to get away with because their focus is shifted elsewhere (in this case - same sex marriage).
I don't think any of these where voted by the people but the State Court Judges decided this. If the people of the most Liberal State, California, bans gay marriages then I would have to bet that if the people voted in each state then it would be banned in all states.
It doesn't have anything to do with a Democrat in the White House; it has to do with people becoming more tolerant and less hateful of gays.
The gaytards won the election, so the politicians feel as though they can do whatever they want without repercussions. But, they will get their comeuppance soon enough.
State legislators are coming to their senses.

The mindset and of gay marriage is taking a turn of the better.

New Hampshire will legalize it sometime this week or next week.
The americans are coming into the 21st century. Americans tend to lag behind other countries when it comes to equality and freedom.
Because states are realizing that equality is a good thing. Discrimination is a bad thing. Pretty simple.
More like people are starting to realize that gays deserve equal rights.
just politicians wanting to get elected to the next term......stupid bas@@@@s can't figure out that it will cut the tax codes in half.....
maybe, put it this way, i dont think its a coincidence this didnt happen under bush
The number of idiots in the US is on the increase?
I didn't know Obama was queer. You're one up on me there.
It's the ';end times';...
No. I think state legislators are starting to come to their senses.
