Do conservatives want to outlaw homosexuality or gay marriage?

Whenever gay marriage is discussed many seem to say that they ';don't want men sticking their pencils into other men's sharpeners';. Wouldn't that require outlawing homosexuality? Why don't they fight for what they really want?Do conservatives want to outlaw homosexuality or gay marriage?
Conservatives don't want to outlaw homosexuality, just gay marriage. Look in the Bible, there are numerous examples of verses that are against it. Here are some: Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Lev 18:22-23.

Now, basically it's a sin to practice homosexuality because not only does it disgrace the people involved, but also the community of faith. These people should remain celibate, regardless of their orientation. I hope this helps. I'm not trying to be mean, just honest.Do conservatives want to outlaw homosexuality or gay marriage?
I'm a conservative Democrat. I've never made a statement anywhere akin to that you made. I have never put forth the notion that homosexuality should be outlawed, and I really don't personally know anyone who ever has.

What I feel is the deal breaker is the insistence by the gay community that their unions be called ';marriages';. The way I feel about it, if I were gay, I would be happy with all the legal entitlements of heterosexual couples and the recognition as a couple by all government resources and employment.

I think those gays who keep insisting upon the wording are just instigators. Just like some of the more strident posters on this site, using inflammatory comments to garner a response they want so they can get even MORE indignant.

When you get right down to it, I think conservatives are more tolerant than supposed liberals. Just look at all the references to certain politicians being gay (one question about Bush and Perry being cheerleaders in college). That's ugly and demeaning to the gay population. But that's from the liberal front.

Edit: Shape Shifter...being conservative does not necessarily mean you are a Christian. Please don't generalize so much.
Technically conservatives want to ';preserve'; marriage by restricting marriage rights to solely heterosexual couples, and this law is in tact in nearly all states even though it still contradicts federal law over state law, meaning in the actual governments eyes its illegal. It is impossible to outlaw homosexuality because there are so many laws in place allowing freedom and privacy. However, if they (conservatives) wanted to outlaw displays of affection between homosexuals they would have to do so with heterosexual couples as well. And of course this would be come irrational let alone impossible.
There are some gay conservatives out there as well. They are generally called ';Log Cabin Republicans.'; Anyway, I do think that many conservatives that are against gay marriage would like to outlaw homosexuality. But since the ones that are largely against gay marriage are usually conservative republicans it's too bad we couldn't outlaw them. HAHAHAHA

Also, one of the first people that responded to this said homosexuality was illegal in Texas is mistaken. It's not illegal in America to be gay or have gay sex because just check out Lawrence VS. Texas for that answer!
Conservatives just want the word marriage to remain the union between a man and a woman. Homosexuals can use another word, if they don't like civil unions, they can have hommiage (kind of like homage). Be creative, gay's are know for being ';creative'; think of a word which represents them not a word which represents what they resent (the union of a man and a woman.)
You are going to need to show us some proof that someone wants it outlawed. As I understand it, conservatives favor leaving it up to the states instead of allowing it to be mandated at a federal level. Big difference, and I think that should be noted. While many conservatives (and others) disagree with gay marriage, to my knowledge they have not tried to outlaw it.
Homosexuality was outlawed a few generations ago..........when that became socially acceptable, they were still trying to outlaw it, but they didn't advertise that view to the public because they didn't want to look like hypocrites.

They pretend to support civil unions just to gain credibility so that they can still outlaw marriage.

But when it comes down to voting........they always vote against gay rights. Not just marriage.......but civil unions, adoptions, protection from job discrimination, etc.
What I can't understand is why people care what consenting adults do with one another? As long as no one is being hurt, the phrase ';Pursuit of happiness'; comes to mind.

Also, IF homosexuality is against your religion, why would you try to interfere with other people's lives? If you think we're going to hell, let us go then and let your deity of choice sort it out.
I don't think they would ever admit to that, maybe they would I don't know. But I'm sure there are some that would like to see homosexuality illegal. But I'm also sure there are many others who just don't like the idea of gay marriage.
Because neoconservative homophobes know that their time has come to an end, so they try to attack us gays in different ways.

For the record, I will continue to stick my pencil into my boyfriend's sharpener for the rest of my life and vice versa.

Just try to stop me, neocons.
Well, it seems the Liberal state of California amended the Constitution to descibe what marriage is.

And I can tell you, two guys jabbing each other in the @ss isn't marriage.
Just the marriages....what they do in the privacy of their own homes is their biz...but they do NOT have the ';right'; to interfere with religion and marriage is a RELIGIOUS institution
I hate that stupid argument! They use it all the time and frankly it's annoying. What do they care? Honestly if you aren't putting your pencil in another man then it shouldn't be your problem right? And what is more annoying is the its gross argument!
One cannot ';outlaw'; homosexuality. It can be made illegal though. As for gay marriage, there is no right to it so there is no need to outlaw it.
Homosexual sex, along with other sexual acts such as heterosexual oral sex, heterosexual positions other than missionary, etc. are illegal in several states. Look it up!
They are already illegal. Ignorance of the law (and pretty much everything else) is no excuse.
Haha seriously? They really aren't doing anything...that's why you know gay marriage is still illegal in most states.
Last time I checked Homosexuality is illegal in Texas.
If they could, Conservatives would outlaw anyone who isn't white, let alone gay.
So much for Personal Freedom
corner them, and they will say both
Yes, they do. We HAVE been fighting for this for a long time but the democrats are dominating the government right now so we don't have a say in much. Wait... are you gay?
