When my fiance and I get married, how long can we expect to wait for me to obtain my residency visa, and are there employment stipulations? (Ie: Can I enlist in the US Army?) Also, is it an expensive application process? What is the average wait time of a marriage visa?
You can expect from 3 to 6 months if you leave in TX or CA, all other states could take up to 9 months.
The cost of the forms to apply for residency based in marriage is $1,800. I f you are illegal, a penalty of $1,000 could be added. Also, if you do it with a lawyer can cost you between $1,000 to $1,500
Those $1,800 include the application I-765 that is for working.
Good luck. visit the USCIS websiteWhat is the average wait time of a marriage visa?
You should expect it to take anywhere from 8 to 12 months before you get an immigrant visa to the United States.
When you have your permanent green card you can enslit in the armed forces. I do not believe they'll take you with a conditional, 2 year, green card.
I'd say from 6 months to 1 year. That is, if you file the papers right away. Frist you'll receive the work permit, which allows you to work legally in the US. Later you'll be called for biometrics, finger print and so forth. Last will be the interview. You should get your GC soon after that. However, you'll have to renew it after 2 years, then again every 10 yrs, unless you become American citizen.
Yes, it's expensive. And so are the renewals.
