It seems that if protecting marriage is the number one issue, then they should campaign to make it harder to get a divorce. That's a much more direct threat to straight marriages than gay marriage. And it certainly negatively affects children. And talk about teaching kids the wrong values. Why is it that people who oppose gay marriage don't fight harder against divorce?
Because the politicians who run for office would die on that ticket.
Yes, I'm saying it is purely a political venture without any respect for God's Gospel.
John 12
4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 ';Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor?';
Yeah, Judas, you really care about the poor! Why is it that people who oppose gay marriage don't fight harder against divorce?
Yes, very good question, something we should all be asking ourselves.
It seems that more and more bills get passed that in the end are destructive to the family. But yet the politicians only want to focus on gay togetherness. It can't be called marriage nor can a justice of the peace wedding because marriage is a religious Sacrament not a secular legal function.
Perhaps therein lies the problem. Most people have begun to look at marriage as a legalistic function rather than something from God. And what ';man'; has joined together any ';man'; can tear apart because it was only made by man.
But what God has joined together no man can tear apart. Even if people think they are divorced, if they were married in the Church, they are always married. That's God's permanence. He expects us to keep our word for a reason.
I suppose the politicians are best to stay out of marriage all together and we the people should take the responsibility of holding the family together more seriously.
But you are correct, we do need to focus on diminishing the rate of divorce and set a good example for our children. Take care.
The opposition to gay marriage may say they're interested in protecting the ';sanctity of marriage';, but what they really want to oppress gays, for religious reasons mostly.
If you ask me, divorce, marital infidelity and domestic abuse rates are far too high for marriage to be considered sacred anyway.
I think this is a very good question, i oppose to both, though. Both have negative effects on society in my point of view.
Because divorce can actually affect them, unlike gay marriage. They have to safeguard divorce because they might need/want it one day.
I agree.
Both are problems. Divorce maybe even more so because just because gay's cannot marry does not mean they stop being gay.
Divorce is way to accepted in the Christian church.
I do. Divorce is a sin except in domestic abuse situations. I am very much against divorce and would discourage anyone from it.
Henry VIII that's why.
That dude straight mainstreamed the crap outta divorce!
Cheers.
that is an excellent question
Mainly because they already have. A long time ago. The argument was lost.
