What are some secular reasons to ban gay marriage?

Keep in mind these reasons can't be applied to straight marriages too. What are some secular reasons to ban gay marriage?
i gues you would have to ask ';what is the reason for marriage';. it certainly isn't for procreation as some like to say here. i'm pretty sure you don't need to be married to make a baby.

i think secular people can be bigots as well as religious people, who are bigots by definition of faith. What are some secular reasons to ban gay marriage?
Technically, ';gay marriages'; were not ';banned';, they were just not defined as being a ';marriage'; under the law.

Throughout the millennia over which the concept of ';marriage'; has developed, it has always been opposite-sexed (it included relationships such as one man/one woman, one man/several women, several men/one woman, and several men/several women).

At no time was a same-sex relationship included in the concept of ';marriage.';
I'm a liberal and all for gay marriage. But being the devil's advocate...

Naturally, humans are just simply animals that have lived through the test of time, through the process of evolution. The problem here is that we as animals were born with innate abilities to love women in order to mate and pass on our genes. So, we should ban gay marriage so we do not encourage any unnatural acitivties because we can not mate with others of the same sex to produce the same offspring. If we can not mate with the other mate to do so, then why should they be given marriage, which entitles them to many investments and benefits. If anything, keeping marriage away from them is an investment for heterosexual couples to continue mating and keeping the human race alive.

Btw I totally disagree with the argument I have given above, but It's the only secular one I can give for why to ban gay marriage...
none

Edit. Marriage is a legal contract defined and influenced by culture (Southerners used to prohibit marriage between whites and blacks as an example ) and religion ( Muslims and Mormons allow multiple wives to one husband; Polyandry was practiced in many cultures - I guess as a mixture of both cultural and religious practices).

Procreation used to be a goal of marriage, but with this logic heterosexuals who can not have kids or unwilling would be prohibited to marry.

I think the most important question to answer is whether being gay is a choice or you are born with it. I do not think it is a choice and it is backed up by science. Hence the only reason not to allow a contract for two people of the same sex is bigotry.
Since Marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman, there cannot be a gay marriage. However, somebody decided to redefine a word to change a law.

If we redefine People to mean Caucasian, a minimum of 6 feet tall, and Male, then very few people would be permitted to vote or own property in the US.
That's not an easy question to answer. Homosexual activity is not in accord with nature. Science tells us what functions our various bodily parts have, and how reproduction is effected and digestion etc. Why therefore should the state approve of something not in accord with natural law and harmful to the mental and physical health of the parties involved? That isn't the same as outlawing it.

I think the real difficulty here is the changing nature of heterosexual marriage. Marriage has come to mean something other than the means to found a family. Since aiming at reproduction is no longer widely regarded as necessary to hetero marriage, it does seem bigoted to want to deny the same non-reproductive union to homosexuals. Secularists who have a gut feeling against gay marriage have to come up with an adequate definition and ideal of heterosexual marriage which would exclude gays from participation.
To uphold real families, with Moms and Dads, together raising healthy, sane, intelligent and moral children.

Same sex marriage is a form of social suicide because it increases the socially chaotic forces working against a real marriage and healthy child raising.
200 + years of culture, tradition and history in this country goes against gay marriage.

The voters in liberal California voted to amend their constitution to not allow gay marriage. The people have spoken.
How bout that people need to stop interfering in other peoples business!

America was supposed to be a free country but we now feel that we have the right to tell people what to do if we disagree with it.

America has become a joke.
There are none. All of the excuses are rooted in religious views.
It is unnatural.
